Anthology:
1995 - 2010

NPG Records | Sony Music Entertainment, 2018

Thanks to a new agreement struck between The Prince Estate and Sony Music Entertainment, a whopping 23 additional Prince albums from the 1995-2010 era were added to digital streaming platforms on August 17, 2018. The addition of so many albums, many of which had been long out of print, illustrated just how prolific Prince remained during the second half of his career as he took occasional breaks from the gaze of the mainstream celebrity spotlight.

The late '90s and early 2000s were a time of immense personal, professional, and spiritual change for Prince. He began the period under a new name, using his iconic unpronounceable symbol to market his music, and it marked the first time that he released music without his longtime label, Warner Bros. Records, and began experimenting with and pioneering new distribution methods like his own online NPG Music Club. It was also the period when he embarked on long-term romantic relationships, marrying his dancer and muse Mayte Garcia in 1996, and beginning his second marriage with Manuela Testolini in 2002. Finally, it was the era when Prince converted to Jehovah's Witness in the late 1990s, exploring his newfound understanding of his spirituality in song.

To help listeners navigate this enormous collection of newly available music, NPG Records and Sony Legacy Recordings released the compilation Prince Anthology: 1995-2010, which comprises key recordings from the era and chronicles Prince's spiritual and artistic evolution through the late 20th and early 21st centuries.

Remaining true to the aesthetic of the era, the Prince Estate tapped Prince's longtime artistic director, Steve Parke, to collaborate on a new album cover that illustrates just how many styles, sounds, and moods Prince explored during this pivotal time in his life, all under the umbrella of his iconic symbol.
